Review: 2000 AD – Prog 1915

With Savage and Orlok both gaining steam, the Prog should be back on your list of things to check out every week. Every chapter of Staples is a pleasure to look at and this chapter I thought he turned in some of his best sequences of the Dark Judge story so far.  Dredd, Anderson, and all the poor cronies who are going to die awful, terrible deaths are all on the scene of The Mayflower after a bit of a time-lapse, and we are in for some good ol' fashioned Dredd sadism in the weeks to come.  Death seems determined to seal the deal on Dredd this time, so this looks to be both a cerebral and a kickass conflict.

prog 1915 coverThis was probably the slowest chapter of The Order yet, but that really isn't saying much.  I love the uniform, dream-like, deep blue look of the flashback scenes.  The drama has really jumped into this title now that the fate of one of our main characters is in question, and we finally get our first look at what I can only presume to be wurm as deftly rendered by Burns.

I really enjoyed Savage this week as it didn't suffer from pacing at all and is bringing this new stage of the plot to a head.  Savage's encounter with the bio-punks that dragged him away from the Hammerstein conflict was really entertaining, and I hope we get to see more of these dudes and dudettes as supporting characters in the part of the series which follows.

Running against the grain of my usual criticisms this week as well was Orlok which had clear direction and a fun plot.  The climax of the plot was fun to look at but still could have been rendered a bit more clearly.  Though Orlok still gets a little jumpy and feels rushed sometimes, it's been settling into its own groove, and since I was looking forward to this week's chapter and wasn't disappointed, I will keep my hopes up going forward.
