Review: Wild’s End #3

Wild’s End from BOOM! is the perfect example of why not to judge a book by its cover. Just looking at this series, it seems a little dull, but that is far from the truth. This story drags you in with its old time characters and rollercoaster of a plot. Meet the gang of Peter, Gilbert, and our leader Clive. They are searching for answers in their small town. See a strange robotic like creature has landed in their town. These little guys look innocent but cause massive explosions. Clive, just moving to the town, takes it upon himself to lead this team into the woods to find out what is really going on. WildsEnd03_coverAWild’s End was crazy last month. With the addition of Susan into the mix, I was loving the dynamic between the team. It was time to start to unravel this strange event and stop these aliens before they blew anything else up. I felt bad for little Alph and the lost of his family. But it was time to move on and plan something. The gang had captured an alien, so it looked like the plot could only go up from here. Boy was I wrong. As we all know, Alph decides to take action to deal with his pain and opens fire on the alien. Gilbert gets hit in the crossfire, and we lose him. I loved Gilbert and his normal life. Now I am nervous to get attached to this new team and Susan knowing that it was so easy for the aliens to kill one off.

So obviously, we pick up right where we left off. Clive again taking lead to abandon the house and get out before that thing strikes again. Clive is such a good leader. He doesn’t question his plans and he doesn’t use physical force to enforce his ideas. Instead he is just stren and frankly right about every move they make. I don’t think he even tries or knows he is the leader, but again just knows exactly what to do and how to move quickly past these weird events.

Anyway, the group, with the help of Susan’s knowledge of the woods, decides to head to Upper Landing. The place is a hamlet and seems better than heading back to their own town for fear of leading the aliens to their homes. The whole issue revolves around this walk in the woods, which again sounds dull but isn’t. I love just wondering into the trail with these guys. The dialogue is just as interesting as the story. With all the secrets Clive has about his past and all the drinking Susan does, it makes for a good pair. Plus you know they will find something on this journey. And what they discover only makes the mystery of the comic more intriguing. Pick up BOOM!’s awesome new title and see for yourself how good Wild’s End is and get hooked on these characters.
