Amber Benson and Christopher Golden Bring Irish Folk Horror to The Heir
Mad Cave Studios has announced The Heir, a five-issue Irish folk-horror series by Amber Benson and Christopher Golden, with art by Gavin Fullerton, colors by Juancho! and letters by Becca Carey. Issue #1 arrives January 13, 2027.
Dani travels to Ireland with her fiancé, Conor, expecting to announce their engagement to his family. Instead, his grandfather’s funeral draws her into an estate’s secrets, a dark family history and supernatural dangers rooted in Irish folklore.
Benson and Golden previously collaborated on Slayers: A Buffyverse Story and Ghosts of Albion. They originally conceived The Heir as a potential independent horror film before bringing it to comics with Mad Cave.
Fullerton, whose work includes The Closet and Bog Bodies, says the project allowed him to draw on Irish mythology and the people and places around him. The announcement includes a Jamie McKelvie cover and four preview pages.
Additional first-issue cover artists include Mike Mignola, Rebekah Isaacs with Marissa Louise, and Chuma Hill. Final order cutoff is November 30, 2026. The series will be available in comic shops and on digital platforms.
