Best of 2016: Monster of the Week
By Dustin Cabeal
Throw a stone, and you will hit a hundred comics on Kickstarter making it even harder to find one that stands out from the crowd. I don’t envy indie creators trying to get their book self-published this way because it is a job in and of itself. Occasionally, though, a comic comes along and makes it easy for you. Enter, Monster of the Week.
If, like me, you wanted something more from Pacific Rim, let’s say an actual story to follow, then Monster of the Week is for you. It did everything PR did, but better. The short and sweet is that Monsters teleport to earth, monster hunters try to get to them first and blow 'em up while competing against each other and the government. We follow a group of kids trying to hunt down their first monster, and if you love stories following kids (thanks, Stranger Things), then you’ll love Monster of the Week. It’s simple, well-illustrated, but more importantly, it’s entertaining as hell.
