Best of 2016: Ninjak

By Dustin Cabeal

While Ninjak has had its ups and downs on an arc by arc basis, the overall quality, and brilliance of this story has made it one of the best of the year. Something that’s become clear with Matt Kindt’s writing at Valiant is that he doesn’t write arc to arc, but rather a fantastic story that’s constantly connected. It makes even the weakest of arcs absolutely necessary to follow because you never know when something will play out in the future of the series.

In talking to Kindt in the past, he said that Valiant lets him write like it’s creator owned and that’s exactly what makes Ninjak so great. It doesn’t feel like a franchise superhero story, but rather a very personal one with the guiding hand of one creator and a team of brilliant artists. Ninjak has proven time and time again that it’s one of, if not the best Valiant comic currently published, but also one of the best out there period.
