Best of 2016: Tomboy
By Dustin Cabeal
I have been praising Tomboy all year. It is by far the best comic that Action Lab/Danger Zone is publishing. The story is layered, creepy and violent, but all wrapped up in a mystery that has kept me and others reading guessing for the story’s entire run. Mia Goodwin has proven with each issue that she not only understands how to tell an amazing story visually, but that she’s a master of it.
Point in case, she had to give up art duties, and Michelle Wong stepped in and made the transition seamless. Name another comic that switched artists and matched the style? It doesn’t happen, but Wong kept the look and style of the comic that Goodwin had started.
If you don’t believe me, then listen to the CBMFP episode in which I challenged Steve to read Tomboy and made him an instant fan of the series. If I were ranking the titles on this list, Tomboy would be near or at the top.
