Group Review: Infinity #4

We’re two thirds of the way there with Infinity and that means that it’s time to check in with Marvel’s latest event book. Each of the writers/reviews of Comic Bastards will give the issue a score of: Buy, Borrow or Pass along with a short reason for the score. Here’s a quick blurb from Marvel about the issue… and when we say quick we actually mean bullet points… Negotiating the fall of worlds. The Illuminati versus Thanos. Thor, God of War.

Adam: BUY

Reading Infinity #4 was probably the most interested I’ve been in reading a Marvel or DC title thus far for this site.  Thanos is as furious as ever, still searching for his son to kill him.  Black Bolt gets the crap kicked out of him for not telling Thanos where he is which was an awesome sequence of action.  The art is great, and I really liked the mini backstory on Thane too.  The book itself had a very good flow to it, the story was advanced well and I was interested throughout.  My favorite part though was definitely when Thor passively aggressively killed that Builder, he sure had it coming.  Although I personally wouldn’t buy this issue, I definitely would recommend it to anyone who’s interested in checking it out.  So for that, I’ll give it a Buy score.

Samantha: BUY THE SHIT OUT OF THIS ISSUE

Dude, this issue totally just blew my mind. I didn’t know if Marvel could keep this series up, but damn they did. I ate up every last word of this issue. And let’s talk about the battle scenes. Black Bolt and Thanos gave me chills. Hands down, it was the coolest part of this issue for me. The panels were cool with so many different shapes and sizes, I fell in love with this sequence. Then shall we move on to Thor and just how badass this god is. He totally just rips Hala  a new one. This issue just had everything a good comic needs. After reading it, I was so pumped up. I think I even pushed out a sit up or two before dinner.

Infinity #4

Carl: BUY

Thanos grapples with Black Bolt; Thanos wants to find and kill his own son.  Black Bolt wants to stop him.  The Builders interrogate Thor.  They slap him.  Here’s a tip for villains out there: Don’t slap the thunder god.

The result of manhandling Thor is the reason why I give this book a BUY IT rating.  Infinity has been getting better and better, and issue 4 was damn fun.

Dustin: BUY

I'm just as surprised as you that I'm giving this a "buy." After Marvel's marketing department screwed up and revealed Thane's name and design for a fucking mobile game, I wasn't to thrilled to read this issue. I will say that the battle between Black Bolt and Thanos was disappointing. It was Star Wars bad and Thanos didn't even deliver a killing blow. I'm far more interested in Inhumanity now, but it screams repeat in the same breathe. Remember what the Marvel U looked like prior to "No More Mutants?"  Well it looks like it's going back to that. I loved the Thor bits, but hated the recycled Avengers movie dialog. Overall though, issues like this are why Marvel continue to do event books and why people continue to buy them. You buy four issues waiting for this one to come along and knock your socks off.

Score: Buy!
