BOOM! Studios is proud to continue KaBOOM! Summer Blast,  a week-long spotlight on the best middle grade comic books and graphic novels from the award-winning imprint in the coming months with your first look at DODO, a new original graphic novel by cartoonist Felipe Nunes debuting in stores May 2018 about love, loss, and how the most unexpected of friends can save us.

When Laila’s parents split up, she doesn’t understand why her life has changed, and why her dad never comes by anymore. Lonely and confused, Laila ends up befriending a strange bird that lives in the park by her house. Her friendship with this bird, a dodo named Ralph, takes Laila on a journey she never expected and shows her things about her own world she’d never noticed before. 

“DODO explores an emotional journey of a real-life situation with a fantastical twist that’ll resonate with both adult and middle-grade audiences. It is a graphic novel that is near and dear to our hearts in KaBOOM!,” said Whitney Leopard, Editor, BOOM! Studios. “Felipe brings an emotional depth and nuance to Laila’s story, something many kids and adults will empathize with, that will stick with you long after your first read or, in my case, your fiftieth.”

DODO is the latest release from BOOM! Print copies of DODO will be available for sale at local comic book shops (usecomicshoplocator.com to find the nearest one) on May 30th and in book stores on June 5th or at the BOOM! Studios webstore. Digital copies can be purchased from content providers, including comiXology, iBooks, Google Play, and the BOOM! Studios app.
