LINE Webtoon Springs into April Launch Week with New Comic Series From Blooming Talent
Press Release
LINE Webtoon (http://webtoons.com), the popular digital comics publisher pioneering the development and distribution of comics worldwide, is highlighting four debut titles for April Launch Week. A designated week each month created to introduce readers to emerging fresh voices and unique comic creations, April Launch Week will begin on Sunday, April 2 and feature four talented female comic creators, including three creators from LINE Webtoon’s Discover platform -- LINE Webtoon’s open platform that allows digital comic creators a way to publish their work and build a fanbase. Spring has sprung on LINE Webtoon - from birds chirping, to spring fever and blooming flowers, April’s launch week titles - ‘A Budgie’s Life’, ‘Power Ballad’, ‘I Love YOO’ and ‘Late Bloomer’ - embrace the season, while maintaining distinct points of view and differing genres that cater to all readers.
Kicking off launch week on April 2, A Budgie's Life, by Sarah Kim (aka Muffin Girl), is a comedy that recounts the lively and underrated personalities of birds. The comic strip highlights the commonalities of birds and humans in their day-to-day lives. A Budgie’s Life aims to show readers that like dogs and cats, birds have a personality of their own. Readers will be able to dive into A Budgie’s Life three days a week on Sundays, Mondays, and Tuesdays.
Premiering on April 6, Power Ballad, from creator Molly Brooks, tells the story of Carina Peterson, popstar by day and vigilante ‘The Skeleton’ by night. When dead fashion designer, Marco Gallo’s, iconic vintage couture pieces begin to vanish from museums and private collections, The Skeleton has personal reasons to set out to find the thief while Carina prepares for her new album release all the while secretly pining over her personal assistant and trusty sidekick, Meera Verma. Readers will be dropped into a new aspect of Carina’s double life every Thursday as they explore Power Ballad.
I Love YOO, by Stephanie "Quimchee" Quimco, which will premiere on April 7, tells the story of Shin-Ae, an odd 17-year-old girl, content with her simple and drama-free life who wants no part in romance. However, after a series of unfortunate events, her life becomes nothing short of complicated and romance is sure to follow suit. New episodes of I Love YOO will be available every Friday on LINE Webtoon.
Late Bloomer, by Tiffany Woodall, premiering on April 8, introduces Mai, a woman born with a flower bud growing from her belly. The rare condition, Botanical Development, has followed her from childhood into adulthood. To rid the bud, it must bloom and be deflowered. But the bud will only bloom once Mai has found a soulmate. Unfortunately (for Mai), she’s awkward and inexperienced when it comes to the dating world. Late Bloomer invites readers to join this eccentric twenty-six-year-old on her journey to be deflowered every Saturday.
“We are very excited to kick off the Spring season by introducing four talented creators to our LINE Webtoon readers. I have no doubt their work will flourish as they join the ‘Featured’ titles of LINE Webtoon,” said JunKoo Kim, Founder, nd Head of LINE Webtoon.
Readers can dive into ‘It’s A Budgie’s Life’, ‘Power Ballad’, ‘I Love Yoo’ and ‘Late Bloomer’ throughout the week of April 2, 2017.
