Review: Adventure Time #29

Adventure Time #29 rebounds from last month’s issue!  All the nonsense and humor that I look forward to is back but I’m not sure how long it can go on after the conclusion in this issue. Last month Princess Bubblegum had this brilliant plan, you see, to turn the whole Candy Kingdom into ghosts. Seems fairly problematic but PB is sure that it is sound. She wants the Candy Kingdom to become a ghost army to defeat the evil ones that Finn and Jake accidently set free.

Unfortunately, a ghost army isn’t very effective since punches don’t really hurt ghosts. Unless they combine all their strength! Which is actually pretty awesome because they turn into this humongous transformer PB. I mean who doesn’t want to be a part of that?! Anyway, they pick up those bad ghosts and put them into a special container. There’s a bit of a special/surprise ending that I won’t spoil for you but definitely worth reading.

Adventure_Time_029_coverC copy 2I like to think of PB as a complex character and yea she’s got to be tough to rule a whole kingdom and her science expertise is commendable, but sometimes I think she’s blinded by this. She just assumed that all the ghosts were bad but really there might have just been a few jerks in the lot. I do like that this was discussed in the comic. It adds depth to the characters and to the plot. Also it’s probably a good lesson to teach kids. Ryan North, always doing it well.

I believe this issue is Jim Rugg’s last with Adventure Time. Rugg you have served us well, you will be dearly missed! Your illustrations will be forever remembered and have a special place in my heart.
