Review: Army of Darkness: Ash Gets Hitched #3
Venturing into the forest cemetery where the Book of the Dead (and its duplicates) rests, Ash, Shelia, and the Wise Man investigate the Faceless One. The trio encounters a deadite horde that surprisingly does not give attack. Fear of the Faceless One keeps those monsters in check. When Ash discovers a secret entrance on the altar holding the Book of the Dead, he descends down into the darkness. Shelia and the Wise Man stay back to defend themselves from an onslaught of the Faceless One’s minions.
In the pit, Ash runs into all sorts of horrors. He even encounters a face from the past. Ultimately, the hero comes face to, um, I guess I will say skull with the Faceless One.
Last issue revived my interest in the series by being funny, exciting, and eerie. This issue does an amazing job of bringing in some great scare elements such as the encounters in the pit. Nacho Tenorio compounds the horror with his great illustrations of a maggoty face and a hulking Faceless One.
I did chuckle when Ash challenged the attacking monstrous hand only to be smashed down from its swat. Nuances like this make me wonder why this miniseries stands out while the ongoing series floundered.
Nevertheless, I enjoyed this issue.
