Review: Borderlands #6
This is a marked step up from last issue. This time we get stuff that wasn't in the game, extra characterisation and back story. This time we get to see a lot more of Patricia Tannis (and a lot less sandwich, replaced by her new obsession a chair (the pay-off is much better this time)). This issue covers Patricia's back story, through the use of an audio-journal she recorded that claptrap decides to listen to. The audio recording were used in the game, but they were just audio (you don't meet Patricia until later in the game) and they were slightly different. We find that Patricia has always been a bit of a social oddity even before she became stranded and alone. Her 'friends' or at least colleagues all eventually die from various causes. Which leaves her alone to study the mysterious vault and slowly go slightly crazy.
Claptrap gives a heartfelt (can I use that word as he's a robot?) hug to Patricia after listening to her harrowing tale. While he is away the comatose lady wakes up. Who is she and what purpose does she serve? (I'm seriously asking because I didn't get that far in the game (I've started playing it again so I might find out before next issue)).
This issue is much better than the previous but it's still slow going. Things that stand out were seeing some skags and the original characters getting some fun characterisation in their short appearance. Claptrap isn't quite as charismatic on the page as in the game, losing the voice and random way he moves really takes something away from the character.
Line of the issue: 'DAY FOUR HUNDRED AND F&#* IT.'
