Review: Danger Girl - Mayday #3
After The Chase, I have missed that story and wanted so badly to continue with Abbey and her team. Bringing in some new girls, I was apprehensive to say the least. Mayday has proved to set up some good storylines, but can it hold out long enough to make a good story? Natalia Kassle is taking on her first mission, and it is clear that the only person who has faith in her is April Mayday. I really can’t blame the other members for not wanting to trust her. Natalia has just been trained and then on top of that she has no memory of her past life. See Mayday recovered Natalia after a mission and kept her to train her once again as a Danger Girl. Natalia doesn’t remember a thing. Ok sounds like she will just jump right into the position then like riding a bike, but what we know and as well as everyone else is that Natalia was famous for messing with her team. She was a double agent while with the Danger Girls. She worked for the Russians. And now she must go into a huge Russian party and find valuable information on a weapons drop. This could get interesting! With a team only outside the party, it would be very easy for Natalia to ask for protection and double cross Mayday. Everyone is on the edge of their seats and no doubt the readers will be as well.
With such a good build up, I was hoping for some good ol’ fight scenes from the girls. I will be honest because with this story arc, I haven’t been blown away with the high intense action. IDW has spent some time building up the story and characters, which is all fine and dandy, but this is Danger Girl, I want some butts being kick. Well finally issue #3 has given us plenty of butt kicks. John Royle gives us everything we have wanted with the action sequences. I love seeing all the chase down scenes unfold and like always the girls winning. Not to mention that the snow castle was pretty badass too. The fur coat that Natalia wears freezes everyone in the room.
When Natalia finally gets close to her target, she blows her cover and this sends the team into frenzy. Again Mayday has to calm everyone down and let Natalia do her thing. I didn’t like Mayday at first, but she has grown on me. I wish her and Natalia could do a mission together. Not only would this prove Natalia’s loyalty but also be highly entertaining because the more Danger Girls there are the better the explosions.
All in all, #3 has finally brought out the big guns in Natalia story. It can only get better from here, plus hello did you notice who was on the variant cover, Abbey Chase. Yeah this is going to get good especially since Chase is the main girl Natalia double crossed. I don’t know how everything will go down, but I will be watching it all get revealed with in this new story. Pick up #3 so you can get back in the chase too.
