Dollface #4 is a pretty straightforward issue as it wraps up the conclusion of the first arc. Unfortunately, there’s nothing too surprising about it. As we saw in the last issue, Janey was plotting to kill them all, to begin with, and so they throw down once again. No backstory business, nothing.

There are a few interesting things that happen in the issue though, the first being that Dan Mendoza and Bryan Seaton reaffirm that Janey is a bad woman. She’s not to be rooted for, and that’s a hard pill to swallow since you do empathize with her in Zombie Tramp. Here though, she’s used to show how different Lila is and that’s a good thing because you don’t want this to feel like Zombie Tramp with a team. It needs to be and feel like its own series, and it does that quite well, but it’s also great that it’s a part of the same universe.

The other thing that this issue does is get rid of the threat of Janey’s book. I won’t say how, but with the book out of play it changes Janey’s series, but then adds a free mulligan to this series. Now they can use its resources to develop stories further and possibly cross the two series over again at a later date in time.

Other than that though, it’s an average conclusion which isn’t a bad thing. It goes the way it should, and it’s entertaining while getting there. Mendoza’s artwork is still top notch and accompanied by great coloring making this book beautiful to look at. If you’ve followed the series thus far, then keep on reading and see how the first arc closes out. I’ll be interested to see when the series returns and what it’s next arc will be. Hopefully, Mendoza will be back on art or at the very least one of the talented cover artists will take over.
