Gohan takes a brief lead on this week’s battle between Universe 3. The Universe reveal’s their grand plan with some tough robots, and it's nothing new and exciting that we haven’t seen. With the tournament drawing closer to its end, the episode fails to keep us entertained and gives us another rushed felt battle and leaving a lot of room for potential.
Gohan is given some spotlight in the battle between the robot warriors, but this leads us to believe we’d see a great one. The young Saiyan delivered gratifying action by taking on three robots by himself so Goku and Vegeta can save their energy. This challenge made the battle a little interesting. Sadly, I was not a big fan of the merging robots where we’ve seen in shows like The Transformers or The Power Rangers. On their part, they were lacking action and had so much potential than just being robots who can transform into one.
I was definitely fooled believing Vegeta and Goku were going to step in on this fight and put Gohan behind, but instead the two Saiyans gave Gohan the opportunity to build up his energy and release his “full power” to finish off the opponent. Gohan's Kamehameha was a success during his shine, but I'm urging for a kick ass moment for him and sadly, its not that time yet. A memorable scene I enjoyed was Goku displaying that fatherly love towards Gohan. We’ve seen this touching moment a few times throughout the tournament and this made the episode meaningful too. Not only was Goku proud, but Vegeta and Beerus as well and it's a rare thing to see from two prideful characters. I look forward to seeing Gohan’s growth as a fighter if he decides to follow his father’s footsteps.
The fight between androids and robots was interesting to see as both opponent’s stamina was put to the test. Luckily the battle was a cake walk for the androids and it felt like a “in your face” moment to Universe 3 for not noting they were going against androids. Again, the robots lacked action in this fight and their bland development as characters did not help.
Episode 120 lacked in providing a captivating battle and left a lot of room for potential for the robot fighters. Universe 3’s three robot combo just wasn’t enough, but it may be all a set up for the grand episode we are all waiting for. This won’t be a memorable episode, but it can be surely made up for an epic battle between Goku and Jiren.
