Review: Foundmi – Series 2
By Dustin Cabeal
Foundmi is an interesting product. One that really depends on your way of life and the necessity of such a device. It’s a small Bluetooth enable product the size of a keychain, which is perfect because that’s one of the intended places for it to be attached.
Here’s how it works then if it’s attached to your keys and you lose your keys you go into your phone and launch the Foundmi app. This is assuming you’ve already paired the Foundmi to your phone in order to use the app. Then you hit, find my character, and it sets off the device so that you can find your keys. There is also the reverse, let’s say you can’t find your phone. Get your keys and hit the button on the Foundmi and it will set off your alarm on your phone. The Foundmi does come with a heavy duty two stick tape circle in case you want to attach it to a tablet or a computer, but it does stick out, so it’s something to be aware of if you go that route.
Now if you don’t lose your keys often enough to use this or you’ve never misplaced your phone, then no, you’re not going to have any use for this device. It’s out to solve a very specific problem, and I would say it does just that. I couldn’t remember where I had put it and so I set it off and was then able to track it down and find it in my bag. I tried finding my phone with it as well, and it was very effective in doing that.
The range is only 100 feet which is improved over the first generation of Foundmis, but don’t think that you can throw your keys in the ocean and then go find them or some crazy shit. Maybe if you leave them at a neighbor’s house or a restaurant you're close by too, it’ll be far more helpful. The app does show the last known marker as well.
The designs are simple. Since it’s one mold being used the end up looking about the same just with different uniforms. This what I call the Funko Pop effect in which an established style is grafted onto everything else for simplicity reasons. Still, it works for a device the size of a keychain. Hell, I’ve had bigger keychains, so the size didn’t bother me, but I’m sure that it’ll be someone’s biggest complaint. You should know what the device does and if it’s for you. Don’t buy it expecting it to be something it’s not; it will disappoint you that way. For me, I’m going to put it on my kid’s bag because that’s what works best for me and the way I want to use.
