Review: Generation Zero #2
By Kaleb Herbert
Grab the tallest ladder you can get your hands on because this story is getting deep. A little cheesy, but Lente keeps delivering a story that is honestly invigorating and keeps adding layer after layer. It is hard not to gobble up everything in this issue, with excellent artwork, incredible writing, and great story progression. Each character is getting a little bit of spotlight during this issue with a little background information, and personality development. This issue does a great job of not overwhelming the reader with new information, but rather gives the reader just enough to digest while also letting the reader feel good about knowing that more is coming with future issues.
Everyone at some point in their lives has felt like an outsider; this is just like Keisha, the main character in the comic series. She is an outsider in her futuristic yet familiar town. Still trying to figure out the cause of her boyfriend’s death seeking the help of Generation Zero. Lente gives more details of exactly what these Generation Zero people are capable of. Each individual Zero has their own set of abilities, ranging from, mind-reading, healing, and changing into different animals. These reasons alone should at least peek many readers interest. If those aspects do not peek your interest, then the writing and artwork should do it for you. Lente and Portela are delivering flawless work.
Without spoiling the story, it is incredible to see how much has actually been revealed by the second issue. Lente has a great mind for knowing when and how much information to give the reader to not only satisfy their needs and wants but to also keep them wanting to flip the pages for more of the story. This is truly a powerhouse creative team. Undoubtedly, Generation Zero should fall into one of the top comics of the year. With Portela creating eye-popping art for each comic, and Lente continuing to create a story that keeps delivering, it would be surprising if new readers weren’t intrigued by it.
Overall, this is one of the best comics I have read for the week and possibly even during the last month. This is a series that will be perfect for really anyone’s collection. It is actually upsetting that this only comes out once every month. Although it is only a once per month issue, Lente gives the reader enough to think over during that time in terms of what will he throw at the readers next. It will truly be interesting to see if this creative team can maintain this standard they have set. If you are on the fence about whether you want to pick this issue up allow me to give you a boost of confidence, you will not be disappointed, especially if you have already bought the first issue. Everyone watch out because this is the future of Valiant Comics and that is truly exciting.
