Review: Godzilla: Rulers of Earth #1

Throwing off continuity AGAIN, IDW presents another Godzilla series.  So far only Half Century War caught my attention and finished a coherent storyline.  But I will not be prejudiced with this comic.  I love Godzilla almost as my as I irrationally fear oven mitts. The US Government tracks Godzilla via submarine.  Seen it.  A young woman arrives in Hawaii at a special ‘Megazoology’ convention.  Yawn.  Gigan fights Kumonga.  Cool.   Aliens watch as the cyborg tussles with the spider.  Seen it.  Back at the convention, a lot of people talk.  A lot.  Yawn.  Zilla shows up and Godzilla blasts him with his atomic fire.  Yup, just like in Final Wars.  Godzilla shows up on the final page, making the total number of panels he appears in the comic named after him equal to 3.

Godzilla_Rulers_001-pr-1IDW, I will fill you in on a few things to make a great selling Godzilla comic book.  1) Focus on Godzilla.  2) Have him fight and destroy things.  3) Give us a human that we care about, not some ditzy girl with a camera and an interest in kaiju.  Come up with something we G-Fans haven’t seen in 28 movies.  Get me excited like Legendary Pictures is with their new foray into Godzilla movies coming out next year.

I know you can do better than this, IDW.  Please, do better than this.
