Review: Goners #6
“What in the shit did I just witness?” Goners #6 wraps up an already wild arc with quite a lot of action. The world watches as Zoe and Josiah take on a dragon and destroy the grimoire.
There’s a brief attempt to help from the military, but missiles don’t stand against dragon fire. The chaos and destruction is, naturally, televised, and the sun rises as the action unfolds. The fate of the world is in Josiah’s hands, but Zoe won’t let him do it alone. It’s the Latimer team ‘til the end.
I love the art in Goners and it really stood out in #6. There was a lot of action in the issue, and some of the panels got a bit busy, but overall the artwork was really great. Goners is wonderfully bloody, and the opening scene in #6 was a good sort of gruesome. It never goes too far in this respect, but it doesn’t shy away from the violence. It’s a good balance.
This issue was well focused on Josiah, with Zoe right by his side. I enjoy their interactions, and I appreciate how they truly read like siblings, their moments together never forced. That said, I feel I still don’t know these characters as well as I’d like. Goners is certainly action-packed, and there was a good balance of drama and wit; but if this series continues, I hope we get to know these kids better. I’m so fascinated by them and by the Goners world.
This was a solid issue to wrap up the story. It was fast-paced, but wasn’t overwhelming. There were some badass moments with and some feel-good moments to make it a proper ending.
