This series got a bit better with this episode, but it also confirmed my fears about the show. It’s a harem comedy for sure, but the concerning issue is that it’s about an older male teacher and three students. That’s probably the one thing I don’t like about it, the romantic aspect.

The rest of the show is adorable and very interesting. As introduced in the last episode, we find our Dullahan, Machi, being interviewed this time around. Unlike with his vampire interview, he seems to have even less knowledge of Dullahan’s, and there’s a lot of questions that come up. This aspect had the most interesting elements introduced and showed the creators cleverness. Then Machi tells our vampire demi from the first episode that she has a crush on the teacher and she rigs a “fake” date between them as an experiment.

The date wasn’t the cute part. It was pretty typical, and while not creepy, it could easily have been. What was adorable was Hikari interacting with Machi’s body while she was on the date. The experiment was to leave the body and just take the head, and so Hikari and Machi secretly interact even if it’s just a one-way street. There was just something strangely funny about the noises the voice actress for Hikari made when guiding Machi’s body to the bathroom that cracked me up.

There’s another scene that further establishes that the teacher is: A) a good guy; and B) able to do good things with the knowledge he’s gaining from the interviews. It sets up for next girl to be interviewed and I’ll admit I liked that part.

The voice acting is probably the best I’ve witnessed from the show’s I’ve managed to check out this season. The actors are really into their characters and manage to break the mold of the typical archetypes.

The animation is beautiful and clearly, has one hell of a budget for a weekly show. It boils down to the coloring for me; the budget is weak, but if it’s vibrant and looks like a movie, then it has a high budget. Interviews With Monster Girls is somewhere in-between, but definitely on the higher end.

I am worried that all four female characters are going to fall in love with the ultimate good guy character, but we’ll have to see. I will fully admit that he’s very likable and so it might end up being youthful crushes and nothing more. For now, though, I will continue to look forward to this series.
