Review: It’s Snot Fair!
By Dustin Cabeal
In my constant quest to find kids’ books to enjoy with my son, I tried out. It’s Snot Fair! I’m not one of those parents that shy away from potty humor… which is a big duh if you’ve ever heard a podcast with me on it.
It’s Snot Fair is geared towards younger kids that are just learning to read. Unfortunately, it’s not something many adults will enjoy because the humor is low hanging fruit. The word play is disappointing, and basically, it’s jokes for 5 to 7 year old’s that will easily laugh at the word snot, booger and fart.
Perhaps I’m just too much of a connoisseur of fart jokes and booger stuff, but I found the humor to be lacking even for kids. Towards the end, it feels as if you’re just reading the same joke over and over with just a different variation of words.
The artwork is a nice touch; it’s simple and yet has this clean and goofy feel to it. I never had a problem with the art as it gave it a style and made it stand out in quality from a lot of kids books I have read and reviewed.
Unfortunately, I have a hard time recommending this one to a wide audience. I can see my niece and nephew laughing at it the first time through, but even then, I doubt they’d run back to it unless they just wanted an excuse to say booger or pooper… in my house, we don’t need excuses to say those words, so I don’t have much use for it. Maybe someone who isn’t as fond of potty humor would enjoy it and find it’s very safe jokes to be pushing some boundaries though, so if that’s, you consider getting it. Kid’s need to learn this stuff at some point.
