Review: Keijo!!!!!!!! E.01

By Robert Ramos

Let me just start off by saying that this has to be the most bizarre, over-the-top, and completely absurd anime I have ever seen. Please tell me how a sports anime about girls in bathing suits on a platform in the middle of a pool and their sole objective is to knock other girls out using strictly their boobs or butts is not ridiculous. Go ahead, leave me some comments.

We follow Nozomi Kaminashi who only wants to keijo to become the richest Keijo player. I mean, she states that in front of everyone at the academy she’s about to attend that is designated for keijo players. Without getting into what happens verbatimly, this episode not only serves as an introduction to our protagonist, but it also gives us the lowdown on how keijo works, as well as giving us that firsthand look at how it is played.

While most of the focus is on Nozomi, we are introduced to a slew of other characters too. The great thing about these characters is that each is different in their own way, whether it be in body size, bust size, butt size, or personality. No two girls are identical and it’s something that was greatly needed to really make this anime stand out other than the obvious. There’s also the element of how these girls are ranked based on skill, normal or elite, giving them even more diversity. Just in this first episode, there are least a handful of characters that I liked, and no, not for those reasons, ya pervs.

That’s all great and dandy what about the actual battles? Well, they are fucking awesome and animated masterfully. Picture a fight between two warriors, but instead of their swords clashing, it’s their butts. It’s funny to think about, but until you watch it, you won’t understand how well it works and how awesome it truly is to witness. Not only is it extremely outrageous but it is incredibly enjoyable to view.

I had absolutely no intentions of ever watching this but after two friends of mine loosely recommended it, I just had to check it out. I’m certainly glad I did. Despite it being ecchi and fanservice to the max, I’m not ashamed to say that I’m hooked and ready for more. It’s fun and entertaining and not meant to be taken seriously. This is how a first episode should be done, ladies and gentlemen.

Score: 4/5
