I really do enjoy this show which might be the reason I stop reviewing it. When I watch it, it turns off my brain. I don’t analyze it to death because I’m enjoying it so much. When I watch it, I don’t think of things like, “hey this episode felt a lot like an episode from last season” or “good for them for getting back to character relationships.” Instead, I’m just laughing my ass off and loving every minute of it.

When I sit down to review it is when my brain turns on and analyzes the show. Yes, this episode did an amazing job of building Kazuma’s relationship with Megumin as they continue to blow shit up each and every day. The fact that they kept going to the now abandoned castle and blew it to rubble was hilarious. Is it just reusing the same joke thought? Yes, it is. The rest of the episode is spent with Kazuma and Aqua bonding in a dungeon. It was great because it showed them being nice to each other and again was a call back to the earlier episode before the rest of the cast was introduced. Thankfully, the least interesting character Darkness is still not present. I say this because her characterization and relationship with Kazuma has always been the weakest, so her absence doesn’t bother me.

This episode is hilarious. Most of the jokes are recycled from the first season, but they’re great jokes. They’re worth reusing, and it gives these characters a sense of personality. After all, in real life, people use the same gag over and over. It’s a part of their being and so why should it be any different in an anime? Well, it shouldn’t.

The animation no longer bothers me. I can’t even tell if it’s different anymore. I’m pretty sure the opening is still different, but I skip that shit hard. The song doesn’t match the tone of the show, neither does all the adventuring they’re doing. It’s just weird, but I get it, it’s a part of the industry, and they have to do it.

What keeps this episode from being perfect is that our characters are still going around in circles just trying to pay off the debt and the recycled jokes. Maybe if there weren’t so many of them, it would be different, but they go for all the classics. Granted, I laughed, but the reviewer side of my brain says that my laughter doesn’t ensure quality. Otherwise, I’m very happy with this show after three episodes and will rush to watch the four episode when it premieres.
