Review: Lumberjanes #5

Are we already here? Issue 5?! So much has happened since we first met our campers; everything from subliminal messages in the sky to Yeti guards and now bloodthirsty raptors. It seems like there’s nothing our girls can’t face. I don’t think I’ll run out of praise for Lumberjanes. I’ve mentioned before but I’ll say it again Lumberjanes is everything I would want in a comic book. It’s got supernatural beings, friendship and humor. I’m probably going to sound like a family movie commercial but it’s great for all ages. At 22 years old, this is my favorite series right now and I’m sure 9 year olds would love this comic too. Oh and I mentioned a while back that I was hunting down merch for Lumberjanes and guys there’s so much out there! You can even buy badges. Cool, right? Lumberjanes_005_coverAAnyway, let’s get into what happened this month. Jen is put in charge of the whole camp while Rosie is away for the day. I know what you’re thinking, how can Jen handle all the campers when she loses five girls on a daily basis? Well she keeps the campers from going anywhere and I mean anywhere. Even going to the bathroom without a buddy is prohibited. But what would Lumberjanes be without chaos and weird things happening? So some brightly colored raptors are unleashed on the camp. Not sure by who though, maybe they were just wandering through.

Oh and you know April is all over these dinos using her fists of fury and a frying pan, of course. Ripley is being well Ripley, which means not having a healthy fear of anything and riding the raptor like a horse. She and April are forever my favorite characters. Jen is freaking out of course but she’s trying. Gotta give her credit, it’s not easy dealing with raptors that are probably going to eat your face off. And we see a familiar face in this issue that hasn’t been around for a while. I’ll let you find out that little surprise. I almost forgot to mention that there is a little how to guide on friendship bracelets. It’s pretty detailed and easy to follow. Let the crafts ensue!

As usual, no complaints about anything that is Lumberjanes. Brooke Allen does an amazing job of capturing every character’s personality in her illustrations. We get to see a little of the other campers this month and even they have their own unique style about them. So A + to you Allen, A + to Stevenson, Ellis and Watters.
