Review: Lumberjanes #6

I can barely contain my excitement; the new issue of Lumberjanes is out! Stop what you are doing, dig through the couch cushions for some extra cash and head immediately to your nearest comic book store to buy the new issue! And finally, last but not least feast your eyes on the wonderment of Lumberjanes. Simple, right? Lumberjanes_006_coverAHaven’t heard of Lumberjanes? Well then, let me tell ya. It’s about five best friends in summer camp having the time of their lives while simultaneously avoiding becoming raptor dinner or arm wrestling an ancient statue. You know, whatever happens that day.  Sounds like a pretty sweet comic, right?

Let me proceed to what went down in this month’s issue.  It starts off in the heat of the action. The girls are nervous and you wonder what has them shaken up so bad. I mean they’ve dealt with a lot, how could they be scared? Well, its capture the flag and things are getting real.  They make a run for it but eventually Ripley and Jo are tagged which means jail time. But no big deal, they break out. Ripley notices that one of their fellow campers seems a little odd cause she’s transporting and all. From what I’m gathering its Jo’s sister and they have a weird history or something? So many questions and Jo seems to have no idea what’s going on though. I’m as clueless as Jo. However, mysteries should be revealed in the next few issues but I hope that doesn’t mean the arc is ending soon. I’m not ready for it to end. Lumberjanes is one of my favorites.

Oh, do you remember Jen? You know how she’s practical and always getting on the girls? Well, it seems she has had a change of heart and wants to join in on whatever shenanigans the girls are planning. Very interesting.

Brooke Allen is always doing the illustrations right. I love that every character has a distinct look. Honestly, it’s hard to find comics with variation in their female characters. Usually, it’s the same body and face with different hair or something.   So thanks for the inclusiveness and having depictions of girls with different skin and body types, Allen.
