Review: Nailbiter #27

By Mike Badilla

We left off with Warren being shot by some random guy and left for dead out in the street. Who is the masked man that shot him? Why did he do it? Will he survive? Let's keep reading and find out. I don't even know yet, I write these as I read the book. We can be surprised together.

We begin with a flashback of Carrol first talking to Finch about Buckaroo. We see a recap of them discussing the town, and what Carrol is planning to do, which as we know is go into Buckaroo to discover what is causing all these serial killers. We see Carrol get to town, start to ask around, and just as he's about to meet with Warren in the serial killer graveyard, Carrol is pulled underground screaming "I knew it was you!"

We forward to a hospital bed. Warren is in it, on life support, surrounded by flowers. Crane is discussing with the officer in charge of watching Warren's room what happened. No witnesses, no anonymous tips, they are surprised anyone even called him in. The flowers are from all of Warren's fans. We see Crane asking around town, eventually getting to Morty the mortician, who reveals some information he has had for a while, simply because she had never asked him for it before.

Crane eventually heads to the Murder Store to meet up with (random blonde from earlier issues) who has bought and renovated the store. After getting no answers, Crane leaves the store only to be confronted by the FBI. They not only want to question Alice, of which Crane tells them to fuck off, but they also want to know if Crane has heard from Finch, as he was supposed to come to the FBI offices but didn't. Agent Barker has also gotten loose from custody, and the FBI thinks she will head straight back to Buckaroo.

Just like my past Nailbiter reviews, I'm stopping there. This book has so many huge turns and things happening in LITERALLY every issue, it's so exciting to read and I won't spoil the end. As always: art is great, story is phenomenal. I can't tell if the series is reaching an end anytime soon, but this will be one I revisit quite often.

Score: 5/5
