Review: Orphan Black #1
If you haven't watched the show and know how Tatiana Maslany pretty much nails it in the acting department, poor you. Pretty much every cool role for a female that has come up recently has had Tatiana attached as a rumor. Unfortunately she hasn't got those roles but she still has the awesomeness of Orphan Black. Diving into this book I assumed that we we get some more deep information on the clones. Issue number one plays out exactly like the show though with almost nothing extra thrown in for the fans. If you haven't seen the show then this is a way to get some of the story without watching (though you really should just watch the show). If you're a fan you'll get nothing out of this except to know you're keeping that franchise alive. If you really want to help the Orphan Black franchise or you're the worlds biggest super-fan then you can buy one of the 14 covers. Fourteen are you fucking serious, really? who needs 14 covers?
The artwork is pretty good, Szymon Kudranski does a good job of depicting the various clones. They definitely feel like Tatiana. The dialogue and script are exactly like the show. While I can't fault how good the writing is, I do fault that there is nothing extra.
Jody Houser mentions in the comments that this series will delve deeper into the clones history and give us more information. So there is hope for this series, this issue misses the mark for me as a fan of the show though.
Score: 3/5
