This comic can be defined with its fast-paced action from panel to panel as the art bursts out with Sonic’s speed. But in the end, it all seems a little too familiar in regards to story compared to the previous issue.
Sonic saves a group of citizens from another robot attack, but this time he is accompanied by Amy Rose. Amy tries to talk to Sonic, just like Tails from the last issue, but Sonic is too busy with his own agenda to truly listen. In conclusion, Sonic races on to the next town to find Knuckles which seems to be the pattern of the series so far: Sonic goes from town to town teaming up with various allies.
I will start by complimenting the action and art of this issue. Again, we get to see Sonic race towards danger and this is displayed beautifully with dynamic streaks and explosions. However, Sonic is not the only player to contribute. Amy and the citizens work together to help save the town, but the real spectacle goes to Amy and Sonic’s teamwork. As a result, the art establishes teamwork through action by making each player a vital part.
Although the art makes an impact, the story falls short to truly stand out. This can be contributed to the comparison of last issues narrative. Sonic saves a group of citizens, but is then saved by Amy in which the two continue to battle more robots. This is pretty much the same setup we had with Tails in the last issue. It also doesn’t help that the issue ends in a very familiar fashion.
The dialogue may be a little analogous compared to the last issue as well. However, it doesn’t slow down the comic since Sonic and Amy have their conversation while battling their foes. Their teamwork, displayed through combat, establishes how much better Sonic can be, but he is too stubborn to realize this. So far I can only see his difficult attitude be a continuing matter until he learns he needs others which can be added to another recurring element for this comic.
Overall, this issue is visually great with the dynamic art and the dialogue weaved into the action. If you want to see an array of Sonic attacks and are a fan of Amy Rose then I suggest picking up this issue, but keep in mind that the story will come off as redundant even though the action is turned up a notch.
