Review: The Wild Storm #6
By Dustin Cabeal
By now, you’re all tired of me talking about this book. I promise not to say, “I swear this book doesn’t need my review” this time around. It will be short and sweet because hey, it’s the end of the first arc and it’s chalk full of good stuff!
What’s particularly good is that it really doesn’t feel like the ending to an arc which is strange since it only checks in with a handful of the characters. By the end, I was extremely satisfied and ready to read more. Mission accomplished because I’m willing to wait and come back for more.
Warren Ellis has wonderfully constructed this new world for WildStorm. It has a New 52 vibe about it, but in the way that everyone hoped the New 52 would be and wasn’t. The dialogue is sharp, to the point and all of these characters are enjoyable, even if they’re not all likable. But hell, you shouldn’t want to like everyone they’re mostly shitty people controlling the world from their high castles.
Are you ready for it? Are you? Here it comes! Jon Davis-Hunt is the best artist in the business at the moment. Heavy is the crown because he’s forced to continually top himself and I’m sure that’s fucking hard to do at this point. That opening gunfight is so damn good. My absolute favorite part was seeing the guy shot five times standing up and all the bullets in a perfect line. It was like, fuck… Michael Cray is amazing. Great stuff and I can’t wait to see what he does in the next arc.
That’s it from me. The Wild Storm is amazing. It’s intelligent both in the story and how it’s written. It doesn’t talk down to its audience or come across pompous, but rather enjoyable and welcoming. The art is brilliant and at this point essential to the world. This has felt like diving back into WildStorm the universe, but with a complete and mapped out course. It’s one of the best comics being published, and that’s not easy for me to say about a big two title, but it’s fucking true. Read this shit; it’s good shit!
Score: 5/5
