Review: TMNT - New Animated Adventures #20

So there wasn't just one returning bad guy from the show. Did you spot the second? Did you know what was going on? TMNT_Animated20_cvrThe first half of this story was fun and set up the story which allowed this second half to be all action. If they had put both halves into one issue, it would of been an excellent issue. I'm not sure why each issue is split into two stories, I'm not a fan. This issue is a perfect example. It would of been awesome if the whole story was contained in one book, because then it would of felt like a full episode from the show. especially with the ending, which would of totally worked as a splash page full art in the style that they throw out at the end of the episodes.

The second story is about the Turtles making their favorite food. There's a blackout in the city and instead of eating one of Mikey's weird pizza creations, the brothers decide to have a pizza battle (cook-off). It's an interesting idea, I could see it as the opening of an episode. Like some things with the new versions of the turtles it's best not to over-think it. It has a couple of laughs but doesn't really make sense (he says about a comic of humanoid-ninja-turtles)

The artwork is okay, It's not stellar. most of the time the characters look like who they're supposed to. Sometimes though they feel a little off, a badly drawn face, a squished head or just feeling flat and not real.

As always it's a fun outing with the Turtles. I'm just not a fan of these split issues. Make a good story that feels like an episode end it with a detailed splash page in the end of episode style.

Score: 3/5
