Review: WWE Superstars #2

The WWE has been a company that has in some way or another been a staple of pop culture. They have tested their hand in comic books time and time again but nothing really made a huge impact. That was until this Papercutz/ Super Genius release and let me be the first to tell you that …IT’S AMESOME! After following a lead of wrongfully accused ex-cop Cena is attacked by Mark Henry. Escaping with his life he is confronted by local police lead by Ziggler.

Across town, Orton and Bryan are battling in a parking lot. The two men have history. Orton ran him out-of-town and now The American Dragon wants payback. Down at the police station, Punk and his boys are looking for AJ and asking The Shield what they know. After a few pleasantries are exchanged; Cena, Orton and Christian all show up. With the gang all here the men reach a stale mate as no one seems willing to share any information with each other.

As C.M. Punk continues to recruit, Orton heads back to The Authority to see what the hell’s going on with the disappearance of AJ. After all, ten million dollars is at stake. Once inside the Apex towers, Orton engages the who’s who of the WWE. Ranging from Stephanie and Triple H to Goldust and Jerry “The King” Lawler.

WWE02Cov.inddNow that Cena, Punk and Orton have kicked the bee’s nest that is The Authority. They must deal with the painful repercussions.

The best part of the WWE Superstars comic is simple. It’s fun. I really like the way the characters come across. They have the traits of the “on screen” personalities and seamlessly transition them into this noir world. If you’re new to the product it can be a little intimidating as there are a lot of characters thrown in front of you but most of them are in cameo type roles. But there is a small dossier in the back to help you keep up.

Story wise, this issue feels a little more of the same with the characters slowly doing the same thing over and over getting very little results. It’s far from being a deal breaker but it could turn off some people.  I did miss the different covers like the first issue had due to the fact they were all so cool.

So listen to the voices in your head and pick this book up!  Woo-Woo-Woo!
