Worst of 2016: Anthologies
By Dustin Cabeal
That’s right. The entire fucking genre. If you asked me if I liked anthologies last year, I would say that they were alright. This year… I lost track of how many fucking anthologies I read. It was just too much, and none of it was worth reading. Yet, they kept coming.
I’m not going to single out any in particular, but my god, throw a stone, and you’ll get an anthology of some kind from a publisher, be they small or big. And I get it; it’s an excellent way to showcase a lot of people’s work. It’s a great way for new creators to get their names out there. That’s not the problem. It’s the people curating them and picking the themes. I’m harshly avoiding anthologies next year unless someone else recommends it to me.
