Worst of 2016: Doctor Strange
By Dustin Cabeal
I went to see Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, but it was sold out, and so I ended up in Doctor Strange. I should have just gone home. If you enjoyed this film, it’s because you’re brainwashed by the Marvel formula. It’s the same formula they use for all of their films which make me wonder why they don’t just get a nameless director to do all of the films since the studio is the real director.
Let me ask you a real question, how many characters in the Marvel Comic books cracked endless jokes before the films? Now two follow-up questions; how many characters after the films have cracked an endless amount of jokes and how many comedic characters do we need in the films? By the time we get another Avengers movie everyone is going to end up with fifteen minutes of jokes, each and that’s fucking ridiculous. Where’s the variety? Where’s the difference? At that point, they’re not characters so much as actors in iconic costumes getting in their mic time. This movie was painfully average, and we haven’t even addressed the blatant whitewashing. If you liked this film, good for you. The brainwashing works, but if you enjoy cinema… this was a bad movie.
