G.I. Joe: Special Missions #4

I found out what is special about these G.I. Joe missions. They don't amount to anything but Joes being shot and nothing accomplish. For being the height of action and plot for this story arc it was a letdown. The Baroness has a mutiny on her hand as the crew she has hired has found out how much the cargo is worth. The Baroness kicks ass escaping taking out crew members while running to a sub.  The elite teams of Joes, having reached the ship finally, have their target marked and want to be quiet. They just want to get in and out mark the goods and leave so they don't get tangled up in the mess of the mutiny. This isn't so easy when a few crew members take out one of the squad and Cobra’s elite working with Serpentor begin dropping in too. Amongst the fighting and chaos of the seas Baroness comes back destroys one of the Joe’s ships and takes the other.

GIJ_SM_04-pr-1The story doesn't make sense as it makes the Baroness seems too powerful or crafty for her own good. Scarlet is really a letdown as a leader and the Joes seem like a bunch of Privates straight out of boot camp and not the elite squad they’re supposed to be.

The art captures the action well. You can feel the chaos and rage of the seas. But looking closely the artist has a talent for making a uniqueness for the men but the women have all the same facial features just change their hair color and length for a different character.

I'm sorry to say this was a letdown. If that was the goal for special missions it was accomplished, but it doesn't capture G.I. Joe glory. There is one good point in the action and that is it. Sorry but this was a disappointment and a slap in the face to this Joe fan.
