We have finally arrived at the end of our journey with issue six of The Flip Side. Although I am sad to see the series come to an end it was starting to run out of juice for me. After the last issue I think I was ready for some kind of conclusion. So if you are just turning in for the first time let me just quickly recap what has happened the last few months. Finn and Jake come across an adventure posting board where they take it upon themselves to help out Painting Princess. Well this quest is a little different than they are used to. Okay, really different from anything they have done. Instead of rescuing the princess they must get Monkey Wizard to kidnap her. Yea, pretty weird huh? If they don't complete the quest, Ooo will be doomed! Along the way they enlist the help of their friendships while everything in Ooo is going haywire. Flowers turn into bees, chickens are meowing and all kinds of junk is happening.
Our heroes are pretty much on their last legs, Finn is in Jake's body and Jake is in Princess Bubblegum's body. I mean Jake does pull off the princess look very well but I think he's ready for things to get back to normal. This month we see things go from bad to worse and end in a chaotic battle. Surprisingly, the solution was very simple. Finn and Jake just had to blackmail Monkey Wizard. Honestly guys have we learned nothing? Always start with the blackmailing.
Overall, I really enjoyed the series and found it humorous enough. This issue just had me feeling a little burnt out and it lacked a lot of the witty nonsense I expect from Adventure Time. I felt that it ended anti climatically, nothing really resonated with me. However, I can't complain about the illustrations. Wook Jin Clark always adding to the quirkiness that is Adventure Time. Also, I'm especially impressed with this month's cover art. I definitely appreciate all the silly details that complete the overall feel.
