This is more like it. I am vastly more impressed with this issue than I was with #2. It resembled the feel of the first issue a lot more. I was hoping that it would maintain that throughout, but like I said last month, the second part of a four part series is always the hardest to write. It at least seems that way from my experience reading comic books. Boom! Studios, and the creative team of Moreci, Daniel, and Rossmo, are firing on all cylinders in March. Laney is starting to lose his grip and his control over Anton. The full moon is getting closer and Anton’s inner beast is almost completely in control. To make matters worse, Laney’s son’s health has taken a negative turn. Not to mention, Laney has been outed as the animal behind the murders in town. Oh yeah, and did I mention that Anton is loose? Things don’t seem to be getting any better. Conclusion next month.
The dialogue is so strong this month. I’m glad that Moreci and Daniel are keeping the main characters around as much as possible, especially since they’re what made this story interesting in the first place. I love every page with Laney/Anton conflict. They’re definitely sticking to what works. I honestly would be ok if this entire series took place in the basement. And if every bit of dialogue that we read was between these two men. I’ve never understood the importance of supporting characters in minis in the first place. The series aren’t long enough for us to really get attached to anyone anyway.
And of course Rossmo’s art continues to dominate between the covers (no sexual pun intended). His expertise is definitely being utilized on this kind of book. Everybody should have a nice, bloody, Rossmo comic book series somewhere in their collection. So keep this in mind come trade time.
I can’t wait to see what this creative team has in store for us next month in the conclusion. But if it’s anything like the lead-up, I’m sure that it won’t disappoint. I have my theories on what could possibly happen, but I don’t want to be correct. I wouldn’t mind a total mind-blow. Occasionally those really deliver. And I think that this may be the team that can do it.
