Review: Five Ghosts #10
There is no denying that Five Ghosts is one of my favorite titles out right now. It is old school pulp meeting old school cliffhanger with phenomenal writing and art, making for a near perfect comic. I absolutely love it. I just can't get enough of Frank J. Barbiere and Chris Mooneyham's masterful tale of Fabian Gray and his adventurous exploits. Issue #10 is the beginning of the end of the ”Lost Coastlines" arc, as we find many of the supporting cast reaching the mythical Island of Dreams. Where Fabian is, we simply do not know. We do get to find out what all happened during the chaotic ending of Issue #9. We likewise gain more insight in our other person who has some Dreamstone issues and the literary Sinbad in her. It all culminates into the assemblage of the characters who will be involved in what promises to be a spectacular finale. Add an transmutated island monster and a giant crab to the pages and we once again have spectacular storytelling from a spectacular team. And old Fabian might just show up at the end too.
Frank J. Barbiere's writing added with Chris Mooneyham's art continues to be a perfect harmony. There are so many pages where the art tells everything... A crab... A man washed up on the beach... the jungle...These images glue you and allow you to understand. Then Barbiere will unleash his dialogue, tying everything into place. These two work as good together as about any team I have seen recently.
Five Ghosts is amazing. The perfect comic filled with swagger, action, and originality in a nice pulpy format. I cannot recommend this title any higher than I have. It continues to grow and build into something special.
