Review: Fraggle Rock: Journey to the Everspring #3

Joseph Campbell once wrote, “If the path before you is clear, you are probably on someone else’s.”  For the colorful Fraggles, the paths of life have not been cleared.  In fact, the imaginative creatures face immense obstacles.  For instance, the journey to the Everspring has brought them new allies in the Dozer kinsmen, but the portal to the Everspring has been blocked shut. Fraggle-Rock---Journey-To-The-Everspring-#3-12.10.14When Gobo and crew find a heap of garbage plugging the opening to the magical water source, the Fraggles rely on the help of new friends.  And here is where the life lessons that these Jim Henson creations teach come through so subtly.  Making friends, environmental concerns, and the courage to explore and create are all endorsed through the wonderful story that will have all readers learning while being entertained.

“They build just to build,” Gobo ponders about the new Dozers.  His fascination with the creative process will reinforce within children the idea that being creative is a reward.

Just as impressive as the story about the quest to the Eversping is, the illustrations of Jake Myler work equally well to captivate readers.  Details such as The Dozer creations incorporating real world devices like Espresso machines and brass bells add light-hearted and inspired touches to the panels of this comic.  With vibrant colors and a unique crystal cave setting, any person venturing on with the Fraggles through this story will be captivated with the art as much as they will be riveted to the story.

So if a reader’s path be cleared or fraught with obstacles, he or she will look back at the Fraggles’ courage to explore and branch out and face that journey with renewed hope.  Like all Henson products, this comic will make everyone feel important, excited, and entertained.

Along with Peanuts, Fraggle Rock does outstanding work in charming its audiences while being quality reads, as well.
