Review: Indestructible #5

Well it’s that time again. Indestructible #5 hits shelves today, and I’m going to tell you what I think, since I read it early. Yeah I know I’m cool. Let me remind you that Darby Pop and IDW have teamed up to bring us one of the most original comics to hit the shelves since Sweet Tooth. I just wish that the news was better. I was kind of hoping that the new creative team was going to bring the fun back into this book, but I was disappointed to see that it didn’t happen. One of my initial thoughts about the book was that a story like this would do best as a mini, but I loved the first two issues, and saw a real future for the book. But since then it has been a little different. I think that I was right. “Ongoing” may be a little unrealistic when you compare it to what is currently the new bar for long-running comics. This is just one man’s opinion, but I think that the popularity of Indestructible has run its course. For all you loyal fans out there, word, but I’m ready to move on. Maybe one of the other bastards will be willing to give it a shot. So now that Greg is a celebrity, everyone wants a piece of him. I think that that’s what’s making this series so dry now. I’m a little done with it all. He’s not really a superhero. How much longer can a storyline like this go on? Anyway, Greg’s going to an award show with his very annoying roommate/sidekick, and now there’s this love triangle between Greg, a slut, and the woman that we all know he’s going to eventually end up with. But as we soon find out, Greg’s piqued the interest of someone not so fun as well.

Indestructable05-cvrASo this is the part of the review where I talk about the script. This comic got my attention early on by kinda wooing me with witty dialogue. I love good dialogue, and this issue had a lot. Unfortunately, it wasn’t funny. It wasn’t witty. And for some reason, I hate Hugo Boss with a fiery passion. I tell you what, if I ever get invited to an award show, I’m wearing a freaking garbage bag.

The art has changed way too much. Since when did Greg get all buff? This character has changed visually so much since the beginning of the series. That’s another thing that I’m not going to miss. I’m sure that there is a reason, but I’m just not patient enough to stick around. When the art changes, the book never feels the same. And it’s not just with indie titles. This book has lost its identity.

Well I guess that I’ve made my point or points. If you don’t agree... well that actually makes me happy. I want to think that maybe I’m just super wrong and everyone else is much more level-headed. But I do not believe that that is the case.
