The first issue of the Sleepy Hollow comic was just released, and I’m super pumped. Sleepy Hollow is one of my favorite shows right now, so I was really excited to see it in comic form! If you don’t watch the show, here’s what you need to know: Ichabod Crane is a man of the 18th century, specifically the Revolutionary War, who is living in the 21st century for Magic Reasons. Lieutenant Abbie Mills is his partner in supernatural crime. Together they make a great team, and have a pretty awesome friendship.

This issue is a story of miracles gone wrong. An elderly woman regains her eyesight, and a teenage girl gains super-strength just in time to save her brother from being hit by a truck. But these aren’t Jesus miracles, they’re more like twisted, demonic, hell miracles. Those “blessed” with these miracles are actually possessed by witches, the Abaddon. In the end, it’s Ichabod’s apprenticeship with Benjamin Franklin and the power of electricity that save the day.

If you’re a fan of the show, I highly recommend picking up the comic. Bennett manages to get Ichabod’s manner of speaking down perfectly, and she writes Ichabod and Abbie’s partnership very well. Coelho’s art brings the spookiness of the show alive on the page.

If you don’t watch the show, you will still enjoy this comic provided you’re a fan of spooky things, strong friendships, and in-the-wrong-century shenanigans.

Each issue also features a bonus short comic by Noelle Stevenson; this issue, the two-page comic shows Ichabod and Abbie on a night off, though even a night off isn’t complete without a supernatural appearance.
