Review: Star Wars #15
After finishing that last arc I don’t think that I was actually emotionally ready to jump back into the Star Wars yet. If you read my review last month of this series, you would have seen that the events were a little more than dramatic. I wonder if we’re going to see any kind of aftermath story in upcoming issues. Doubt it, there was enough aftermath in the last page of issue fourteen. If you missed last month, stop reading right now and pick it up. That was my favorite issue of the series so far. But now that that’s over we have a whole new set of problems just waiting to happen. I mean, come on. A wedding (that we know doesn’t happen) is forthcoming and I can’t wait to see what brings that to a screeching halt. Or maybe Leia does get married, who knows? Not me obviously. Since this issue is the first in a new arc, there was the necessary content overload that Wood tends to throw in, but the story looks like it’s just going to get better. Everybody loves good romantic drama created by the ever popular love triangle. I mean, does this woman have her pick of suitors or what? And now we’re starting to see some kind of emotional overload from Luke that we haven’t had a chance to experience yet. He’s starting to act out in Rogue Squadron and that doesn’t bode well for him. Considering that he’s the only one of the cast that seems to have any problems with anything. Even Han has started to settle down by accepting responsibilities and rank offered to him by Mon Mothma.
The script is filled with very important dialogue, but like I said earlier, the forthcoming conflict is being set up right here and it doesn’t look like there is going to be any kind of smooth transition anywhere soon after. Honestly, I’m kind of disappointed in Luke’s inability to stay focused here. I haven’t really thought of him as the whiny teenager on Tatooine since he and Han “rescued” Leia all those years ago on the Death Star. He’s really matured and advanced as a man, as a friend, and as a rebel. But by reaching the last page of this issue I have a new theory about some stuff. What makes Luke pick up his Jedi training after all of this time flying for the rebels? I think I know now.
Let’s talk about the art for a second. I’m not sure that I’m digging the character design for Luke right now. He kinda looks like a punk. Other than that, I like it. I think that it’s a good look for the series, but I hope some changes are made on Luke. Stephane, I’m not telling you what to do, you’re obviously more accomplished than me, but I don’t know, do something with the hair or something.
I have mostly good things to say about this issue, but it just didn’t blow the proverbial skirt up. But we don’t give out half points on this site. I tend to round up anyway. I was never very good at math. Anyway, I’ve reached my decision.
