Menton3’s art is so distinctive. I tried out Transfusion and sort of liked it. His art just has such deep lines, dark shadows, and creepy characters. The exact thing I needed to get into that spooky mood for October. The Memory Collectors had me right away. I really don’t know if it was the creepiness that surrounds it, but I think it was more than that. When you put three badass chicks on your cover that look like skeletons on the runway, you just can’t go wrong. The story starts off right in the middle of Edith’s first kill although to me it looks like she has been doing this forever. What I love about the art is that the places seem like such a fantasy, but somehow it feels so real at the same time. You feel every sense in your body transforming you into the comic. Of course, we have no idea why Edith is killing this man, but you are drawn to her and the other girls, even though my mother told me never to trust someone who is so white. Then we get a two-year backtrack of where Edith came from and how she ending up here.

The comic, when flashing back, isn’t exactly a comic anymore but more of a short story. It has full pages of text, which usually bothers me, but here I loved it. The comic needed it to fill you in with so much information. I still felt like I was in a comic, and since the pictures are there before and after the imagery was pretty cool to see unfold in your mind. Edith was a former model, explains the outfits, and she and Magdalena noticed a strange man in the room before their big runway show. Edith thought he was reading her memories as old ones rushed into her mind long forgotten. Magdalena felt the same thing. The two instantly bonded. Beatrice came in during the show to try to take down the man. All three girls had an instant connection. Beatrice vowed to show the girls a new life, one away from being the cattle of the world.

What all the girls soon learned is that the world is filled with Memory Collectors. These figures steal memories so they can feel again. The mission is simple; stop these Collectors. The trio is in an all-out battle to save the humans. I really enjoyed this comic. The story was fresh and the girls were awesome. I think anyone could really get into this issue. The only thing that was so strange is when Edith is talking so seriously about how they hunt these Collectors. She tells the readers that they go to comic conventions in order to fit in with their costumes and hunt their prey. It was so out of left field. It made the whole serious tone disappear. You will know what I am talking about when you read it for yourself.

Other than that little corny part, the comic has a great idea behind it. Again, I like Mention3’s art. If you don’t then I wouldn’t try to read this comic. If you haven’t ever read Mention3 this is your chance to get started with a new mini-series of his.
