Review: Unity #11

The issues of Unity that have tied into Armor Hunters have been really good. In a lot of ways they’ve continued the story or just added to the overall event. Each issue of the tie-in storyline has followed a single character from the team and it’s again been good. It’s been deep at times and action packed at others. This issue blows them away and it made me realize that there was something missing in the other issues… it didn’t feel like a Unity book. While there were good tie-ins to the Armor Hunters storyline they weren’t true issues of Unity until now. This issue in 100% Unity and quite possibly made Ninjak my favorite character in the Valiant Universe. He’s like Batman, Iron Man and Sherlock Holmes… but a ninja!

The issue begins with Gin-Gr releasing a bunch of… mini-Gin-Gr’s in a way. They’re drones that eat and grow and become their own being. As Livewire discovers they all also have their own names and languages they speak making it impossible for her to talk to them all at once. Ninjak and Gilad don’t have much time to think as one of them begins to munch on Ninjak’s ship.

UNITY_011_COVER_ALLENThe majority of the issue is spent in flashbacks as we learn about Ninjak and his greatest asset… his mind. It’s truly incredible and elevated this story beyond that of a simple tie-in story. I’m not going to tell you a damn thing about the rest of the issue, but it was a fantastic read.

Big surprise the art is still awesome. Stephen Segovia takes care of the main story, while each flashback has a guest artist; six in total. Each one manages to keep the look consistent and add to the story visually. The art is a huge driving force of this issues success and all of the creators deserve credit for contributing to the experience.

I think it’s safe to assume that Unity has one more Armor Hunters issue left in this run and frankly after this issue I’m looking forward to seeing what Matt Kindt and company come up with. I would even go as far as to say that his issue is the best in the run so far, which has me looking forward to when Faith arrives!

If you haven’t checked out the best team book in comics, now is a good time to start.
