Review: Warlord of Oz #3

Holy poop! This issue just opens right up to some serious ass kicking action. There was not one second of boredom while reading this issue; it was all continuous entertainment which gives me a bit of bittersweet feelings as we are half way done with this arc. I’m not ready for it to end even though I know there are a slew of Grimm Fairy Tale comics out there to keep me occupied.  After reading so many comics it’s easy to become disenchanted and they start to seem like they just drag on but Grimm Fairy Tales has it down to a science. Warlord of Oz is not an arc to be missed! Dorothy, Toto and her two companions are under attack and totally outnumbered so things aren’t looking up until a shape shifting mouse comes to their aid. Yeah a shape-fucking-shifting mouse. Well let me tell ya that this guy is a force to be reckoned with and also an old friend of Glinda’s. He informs Dorothy of her true identity, well sort of. I’m hoping he will explain more in later issues and not be so vague. Anyways, he tells that it’s no mere chance that she came to Oz and that she has special witch abilities. I think this means Dorothy is going to release a whole lota whoop-ass on the Warlord by the time we get to the end.

Warlord of Oz #3-1Meanwhile, Thorne, Scarecrow, Glinda’s apprentice and a few others from Emerald City find a Kavari village that has been ambushed by the Warlord’s minions. This ignites even more haste to defeat the Warlord but they may be out of their league.

I’m thoroughly impressed with the plot and I hope a conclusion doesn’t come too rushed. I think that arc could go so much deeper but it would need more than 6 issues to do so. Also what’s going on with the Tin-man? I wanna see what he’s been doing and how being in cahoots with the Warlord is working out or do I smell a Judas brewing?

Previously, I’ve mentioned how problematic the illustrations can be and I don’t want to be redundant because that’s something I find in all Grimm Fairy Tale comics. Despite that though, I do think that the illustrations bring out the whimsical and dark world of Oz alive. I think it would be difficult to illustrate a world that doesn’t really exist, so I love how well it captures this magical place.
