Best of 2014: Best Revival

Welcome back to our end of the year round-up! The categories haven't changed, but we are giving out something a little different this year to our winners... cuts. That's right, we're jumping you into the Comic Bastards winner circle! You can also listen to the "Best of 2014" podcast episode which is posted at the bottom to hear the entire list, otherwise check back for the next category. Now let's get going with our next category: Best Revival. 5-Best-Revival

Steve - Supreme Blue Rose

SBR is still in the process of unpacking itself at the time of this list, but with a strong, eliciting story and the dreamiest art I've seen in some time, its tone and unique presence are already leaving an indelible mark on a series that has gone through an historic amount of variations and premutations. And it's fucking brilliant.

Nick - Stray Bullets

It's been a decade, and he didn't miss a goddamn beat. Kudos, sir.

Samantha - The Shadow Hero

I don't know if this would go in revival or OGN, but either way is such a compassionate story of the unlikely hero.

Neil - Flash Gordon

Jeff Parker has done a remarkable job reviving this classic franchise. The book is greatly written, and well-drawn. One of the biggest surprises of the year.

David - She-Hulk

She-Hulk's last ongoing was over five years ago, so I feel like this counts as a revival. Really though I just want to take every opportunity I can to praise this title. Charles Soule and Javier Pulido's She-Hulk was fun and exciting, with some of the nicest covers in the business right now by Kevin Wada! I can't believe more people weren't reading this book, and its cancellation was a big loss to the Marvel line-up. I can only hope that the TPB sales for this book are sky-high, and that this leads Marvel to bring it back because I'm going to miss reading this series. Honorable mention to Genevieve Valentine's Catwoman which is restoring the character to her former glory after Ann Nocenti's dreadful run.

James - Rogue Trooper

Man, I loved this revival.  Brian Ruckley brought a modern edge to one of my favorite 2000 AD characters and Alberto Ponticelli blew the art up.

Dustin - Death-Defying Dr. Mirage

Technically speaking Mirage already appeared last year, but this year marked her own series and the exploration of her origin... and it instantly became the best book that Valiant published.
