Review: Holy F*ck #3 (Danger Zone)

My first draft of this review had a long rant about the fact that Action Lab books continue to ship back to back and blah, blah, blah. Is that this issue’s fault? No and so I said fuck that noise and started again. Why? Because I enjoyed this issue. It’s about the same as the second issue which means I’m going to do my damndest to find something to say about Holy Fuck #3 other than simply recapping the issue for you. Though I’m not opposed to that because as much as this is a review, it’s also a conversation that I’m beginning… like right now… with you as you read this. With Holy Fuck #3 the story lines up with some of what we saw in the first issue, but now we see the entire scene play out. Zeus and Isis actually beat the hell out of Jesus, but Satan and his UFO manage to get them out of there. After that Jesus and Satan decide that they’re done with this shit and big whateves. We also learn that Zeus and Isis have crowd-funded their apocalypse which made me fucking laugh. Maybe it’s because I’m heavily exposed to crowd-funded projects, but there was just something funny about it. I wonder what the perks were…

holy-f-ck-3-regular-coverThat’s really all you need to know and I may have told you too much, it’s a thin line. The backup tales continue to be super amusing and I almost hope that there will be an issue in the future of just short stories staring Jesus and Satan throughout time.

There still isn’t that same punch as the first issue, but I don’t expect that anymore and neither should you. The first issue was an unknown quantity, but now we know what to expect. I just wish there were crazier one-liners like the first issue. The humor from creator/writer Nick Marino is still good. It still catches me here and there, but I’m really hoping that the fourth issue will knock my socks off.

Daniel Arruda Massa continues to kill it on art. I really wish there was something new for me to say about the art, but it’s everything I said on my first and second review of the series. I did really like his spoof on a famous TV talk show host and Satan. Looking at Satan can make me laugh which for some people will be a strange sentence to read. It’s the mustache and glasses combo really.

If you liked the second issue, if you liked the first issue, then this issue is a must buy. If you missed those issues and you’re easily offended then yeah just keep on walking. For me it’s good to have a humorous title releasing that has great art and a follow-up announced already.

Score: 3/5
