Transformers have always had a soft spot in heart, especially the classic Generation One version. There is something special about these character that even to this day just sends a warm and fuzzy feeling down my heart. Maybe it’s because these characters were my first exposure to nerdom and it just takes me back to a much simpler time in life. Anyway… enough nostalgia let’s get to the comic. Transformers: Regeneration One has been a fun book to read for a while. I enjoy that it still feels like the old TV/comic book of the 80’s. In issue #98 the Autobots led by Rodimus Prime and crew, are preparing a strategic attack hoping that the attack is successful against Jhiaxus forces. Meanwhile on earth Optimus Prime and Spike are waiting for the space bridge to open and greet their visitors from Cybertron, but when the bridge opens Fortris Maximus appears and for some strange reason attacks Optimus, and takes Spike with him. Back on Cybertron, Rodimus implements his strike plan against Jhiaxus only to find out that the strike didn’t work. Jhiaxus then retaliates against Rodimus, and unleashes his army against the Autobots. A huge battle ensues, and the Autobots are scattered all over the battlefield.
Transformers: Regeneration One is filled with a lot of action. Some friends are captured, others died, and Rodimus has to make a tough decision to save Cyberton and the Autobots. What left me wondering in this issue is what Starscream’s role is? It’s the only part of the story that was not fitting with the rest of the plot. Aside from that one minor issue, It’s looking like issue ninety-nine is going to have some huge implication for Cybertron. The art in this issue, like in all Transformers issues was great. Great detail, robots looked solid and consistent and it still had the 80’s feel to Transformers. Overall a solid read and a good setup for the final battle.
