Review: Wrath of the Eternal Warrior #8
You might see some back issue reviews for this series because I finally had the chance to catch up and I regret not making the time for the reviews. Seriously, really good. Might even beat out Ninjak if you ask me on the right day. [su_quote]Synopsis: Get ready for Gilad to die a bunch and make the mistake of ignoring his first born son right when he’s ready to connect with him. Did I mention that Gilad dies a lot?[/su_quote]
There isn’t a whole hell of a lot to say about this issue. We do get to see Gilad die a bunch in a bunch of different ways and we learn a little about how he regenerates as well. I like the fact that there’s a process and it’s not like Marvel’s bullshit. That and the ending sequence of the issue is exciting. That’s right, exciting. A comic book had me excited to see the outcome and then delivered on that excitement.
Robert Venditti’s writing on this series continues to be impressive. Mostly because he lets the art do so much of the work. He’s got this masterful plan for the character, but it’s so simple and brilliant that he can just let the artist have fun.
The art team, which totals to three people, continues to do that thing I love on this series in which Gilad will be all black with the exception of his teeth, eyes and scar. The deaths are amazing and great looking. I do wish that we had some visual reminder of the difficulties he faces when he leaves paradise. I feel like without that reminder it makes it look too simple for him to return. Otherwise the deaths are great and the lettering is strong. Particularly at the end when the lettering and art overlap and work in tandem.
This is an issue with great moments that tie in to each other to make an even better issue. It’s a comic that gets you excited to read more of it. To see more of it. I don’t know where Venditti and company will go after this story, but it can wait because I just want to finish this story arc. Probably more than I did with the first story arc.
