Review: Zombie Tramp #7

Okay now I’m worried about this series. This is the third issue in a row in which basically the same shit has happened. I get that she’s on a road trip, but when every stop is the same… it’s not fun for the reader. The only slight difference this time is that Janey stops off at a fast food joint that apparently has been making an appearance in every issue of the arc. She waits for a dude that’s shitty to women to arrive and she seduces him into becoming her meal. Afterwards there’s a gruesome and awesome scene which was the one breath of fresh air for the series since this arc started.

The problem I’m having is that there’s no challenges for Janey. There’s nothing she can’t beat by using the same three tricks and it makes her character really boring. Where are the other magic users to challenge her? Where are the other zombies trying to steal her power? Fuck, where’s that werewolf that somehow told his boss about her so that he went and tracked her down and made nuggets out of her? Yeah that part was pretty lame other than his delightful puns.

ZombieTramp_7_cover_regular_solicitThe art changes again because that’s the theme this go around on the series. The art is again competent, but not the right fit for the series. It’s better than the last issue, but overall it lacks the flair of the series. Also there were a lot of empty backgrounds which just adds to the problems.

If this series is going to continue and be successful, Janey is going to need challenges. She’s going to have to go on a shonen journey, for those that don’t get that reference think of Dragon Ball Z. Each person Goku fought was stronger than the last and he had to get stronger to beat them. Even when it became fucking ridiculous they’d still do the same thing over and over. But it worked because you had to make sure that Goku was the best. Well if Janey is going to be the best she needs to Goku this shit and be challenged.

Right now she’s not and it makes for a boring read. What’s worse is that it teeters this series into a cover book, which means you buy it for the covers… not the story inside. I wish there was more to say, but this issue really bummed me out as it was one of my favorite properties just three issues ago.
