Worst of 2014: Worst Thing That 2014 Will Be Remembered For?
While the end of the year is usually all about the good, we here at Comic Bastards like to also remember... well the worst of year as well. That's right, we've given you the best and handed out our cuts, but now we're handing out golden eggs to our worst picks of 2014. Why a golden egg? Well take a look at the big ass eagle logo on the side and you can put the pieces together. Now let's dive into our next category: Worst Thing That 2014 Will Be Remembered For?
Nina - Ninja Turtles Movie
"Remember" is a strong word...
Dustin - Ninja Turtles Movie
I'm going to have to go with this one too. I mean I've blocked it out, even the podcast we did I blocked it out. You could quote me on something I said and I wouldn't know what you're talking about because I've blocked it out. What were we talking about?
Allen - Ninja Turtles Movie
Just bad. Bad, bad, bad.
Samantha - Ninja Turtles Movie
All agree.
Neil - Batman vs Superman Overload of Characters
I know DC is behind the eight ball with their movies, but dumping everything into one movie is a recipe for disaster.
Austin - Fucking Gamergate
I know it's not comics, but it's still close to home as a nerd whose original operating nerd base was video games and not sequential art. Though it at least shows that I'm not a sexist piece of pseudo-hominid garbage like the rest of these clowns, it's also a sad reminder that I'm out of touch, because I had no idea there were this many shitty everyday people until they started creeping out of the mists of their own body odor.
Kevin - Image Comics aka Marvel Light
Dustin nailed this on the CBMFP--Indie talent struggles, lands at popular "indie" label bounces to Marvel then bounce back to the "indies" to tell their home-grown stories as their new-found Marvel fans eat it up. It's something that has always been there but this year it was HUGE. Very interesting Mr. Bond.
Jeff - Internet Vitriol
Being a geek on the Internet sucked this year when apparently the crazies that keep contained to YoutTube comments decided to fan out and make everywhere YouTube comments. From hacking and death threatening women talking about their industry to the idiotic outrage over Milo Manara's generally mediocre 'Spider-Woman' cover, it's been an exhausting and disappointing year. Let's hope we can grow a little from it.
David - For being the year in which Spider-Man was ruined.
So I think most of us are agreed that The Amazing Spider-Man 2 sucked (I haven't even seen the whole thing, but the parts I have seen make me confident this is the right conclusion). It was so bad in fact that it seems to have literally derailed the franchise. I think then, that the worst thing 2014 will be remembered for is that it was the year Spider-Man was left in ruins by the Sony execs. As I write this the third Spider-Man film is in question as rumors fly of Andrew Garfield leaving, the previously announced Venom, Sinister Six and Female Spider-Hero movies have assumedly been canned(?) and the whole franchise is generally in a state of utter chaos. I'm not a huge Spider-Man fan, but I still think he deserves better than this. We can keep dreaming of a world where Joss Whedon gets hold of him, but realistically it feels like he'll be dragged through the mud at Sony for some time yet. That horrible realization is the worst thing 2014 will be remembered for.
James - Milo Manara's Variant Spider Woman Cover
Getting an artist known for erotic art to do your variant probably wasn't a good idea. But hey, who knew what a spray on suit and super powered ass could do to the world.
